Four Places to Party St. Paddy’s Day Style in Tacoma

1.  Paddy Coyne’s For the downtown crowd, with live music all day, and the Tacoma Firefighters Pipes, this warm and inviting Irish restaurant is sure to be packed and full of fun.  Not to mention the incredible food.  They boast some of the yummiest Irish fare around.  I love their soda bread, fish and chips and Guinness Braised Irish Beef Stew.  815 Pacific Avenue, Tacoma, WA 98402

2. Doyle’s Public House Located in the Stadium District, this tiny and well-loved bar will no doubt be packed today.  Get there early for live music with Ockham’s Razor and no doubt some of the best Irish beer selection in Tacoma. 208 Saint Helens Avenue, Tacoma, WA 98402

3. O’Malley’s Irish Pub The place to go on 6th Avenue.  Low-key atmosphere sure to be turned upside down with the festivities tonight.  Live music by The Fun Police with Ten Miles of Bad Road.  2403 6th Avenue, Tacoma, WA 98406

4. CI Shenanigans If the Ruston Way Waterfront is more your style, head here for some lamb stew, corned beef and cabbage, drink specials and, how could I forget, the Buschmills Girls will be there with giveaways.  3017 Ruston Way, Tacoma, WA 98402

My Favorite Chili

Some days, nothing will satisfy you but a great, big, steamy bowl of chili.  I prefer mine with sour cream, grated cheddar and Ritz crackers.  I repeat, Ritz crackers.  I really won’t touch chili if not for Ritz crackers to dip into it.  But I digress.

Epic Fail: The Great German Chocolate Cake Debacle of 2010

So here is my original post I was planning — oh, how nice and sentimental:

Seriously, I don’t normally bake this much.  But March is  a month full of birthdays for my family and friends.

Tomorrow is my dad’s 50th birthday.  (Sorry, dad.  I ratted you out).

German chocolate cake is his absolute favorite — “The way my mom used to make”, he says.   Unfortunately, I can’t locate the exact recipe my grandma used to use.  However, I have found one that is very close, and will surely remind him of the good old days.
