Lorna Yee’s Balsamic-Glazed Turkey Meatloaf

In case you don’t know, I am a newlywed.  This, however, is coincidental to the fact that I LOVE Lorna Yee’s cookbook, The Newlywed Kitchen.   Don’t let the title fool you — I have had it since well before I was married or even engaged.  You do not need to be a newlywed, married or in any type of relationship to enjoy and cook from this book.

There are delightful stories and recipes from couples all around the country, and reading them was quite a pleasure.

What is so fabulous about this cookbook is the cookability (yes, I made up a word) of every single recipe.  They are simple to prepare and utilize ingredients that you would normally buy and cook with.

Cooking with Italian Grandmothers and Roasted Apples

Every now and again, a cookbook stands out to me with something a little special.  You can pick up pretty much any cookbook and find recipes that turn out well, or that have wonderful photos of the food.

Then there are the cookbooks with stories — personal stories that not only outline the recipe, but so perfectly illustrate the history, the very soul of the food.  These stories bring the recipes to life, give them breath and make them all the more beautiful and relevant, and beg to be prepared.

Tangy, Tart, Hot & Sweet by Padma Lakshmi

I found myself at the bookstore perusing the cooking section, wondering how I was going to ever decide on one cookbook to bring home.

It was hard to resist picking up and flipping through Padma Lakshmi’s cookbook, Tangy, Tart, Hot & Sweet:  A World of Recipes for Every Day.  With such an inviting cover of the beautiful Lakshmi smiling up at you with an enticing bowl of noodles, I can guarantee you’ll be drawn in just as I was.  As quickly as I saw it, I scooped it up and made a beeline for the cash register.
